“Some truck drivers are concerned that they will not pass their DOT physical because they have a health condition. They feel if they have a problem (condition) like sleep apnea, high blood pressure, or diabetes that the DOT doctor will fail them and they won’t be able to drive.
The fact is, it doesn’t matter if you have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, or diabetes. Most health problems will never prevent you from passing a DOT physical, as long as you are treating the health problem. When a driver doesn’t treat their health problem is what DOT gets concerned about. Untreated sleep apnea, high blood pressure, or diabetes can cause a truck driver to have a sudden heart attack, a stroke, go blind, or drop into a sudden coma. Anyone of those problems can be devastating to the trucker, and even worse than devastating if it occurs while driving.

I had an AMAZING experience with Dr. Knuuttila and staff! Having many conditions I was nervous about being turned down for a medical approval. FIRST call, receptionist actually put me straight through to the doctor to answer my initial questions. He got right on the phone, gave me tons of info. He told me what needed to be done, then later even sent paperwork and questions to my primary care physician. They got my paperwork back and forth, I’m doing my best to take care of my health and not bury my head in the sand anymore. Today I PASSED and got my medical card! They were fast and professional and very easy to talk to on the phone and even more in person! If you need an exam, call Dr. Knuuttila!
Thanks Greg for the positive review. This seems like a good time for me to expand upon something that might help other drivers. I can’t tell you how often a driver does not disclose his medical problems when he is answering the 32 health questions on the physical long form. In other words, a driver might answer no to question 7 (do you have high blood pressure) even though the driver has been taking medication for it for 6 years. Or a driver might answer no to all 32 questions even though the driver has multiple problems. The most typical reason I get from the drivers for this, is because they don’t want to lose their ability to continue driving. I understand the concern!
There are multiple issues with not disclosing the medical history. First, is that each driver signs the bottom of the health history form. But most of you don’t read what you are signing. This is a federal document and when you sign it you are testifying “I certify that the above information is accurate and complete. I understand that inaccurate, false or missing information may invalidate the examination and my Medical Examiner’s Certificate, that submission of fraudulent or intentionally false information is a violation of 49 CFR 390.35, and that submission of fraudulent or intentionally false information may subject me to civil or criminal penalties….”
What this means is by not disclosing your medical problems your CDL is not valid and you should not be driving. So if you get into a significant accident and someone is seriously injured or dies the lawyers will find out your medical history and will look at your DOT physical. When they see that you did not disclose your medical problems in the health history…. they will claim you did not have a valid CDL and you should not have been driving. If you should not have been driving then the accident would not have happened…. And regardless if the accident was not your fault the lawyers will come after you personally for the accident because you were driving illegally. This doesn’t include the civil and criminal penalties.
There are very few reasons that will disqualify a driver from passing his physical. Call me if you have questions I am here to help.

We truley are here to help and I do care about every driver I see. The bottom line is this: A driver can have 10 health problems and as long as those 10 health problems are adaquately treated and monitored by the drivers doctor, there should be no reason that driver can’t continue driving.

He even made the time to educate me on some of my chiropractor needs plus did a few adjustments that was needed. Today I saw Dr. Knuuttila for my DOT Physical and I learned I may have Sleep Apnea and I have never been told that. Basically he has put me on a journey to save my life and I am ever so grateful. I do care. Untreated sleep apnea will damage the heart and can cause; a heart attack, heart murmurs, A-fib, tachycardia and many other medical problems. Sleep apnea is a condition that is easy to treat and if treated will prevent you from having secondary complications of the heart that could potentially end your life.

A CDL certificate is not just about me signing a piece of paper. It’s about making sure you truck drivers are able to drive and it is about passing on knowledge that will help you with whatever your health conditions are. There is a lot of confusion out there. I get drivers who think they won’t be able to drive if they have a medical condition. The truth is, if a driver takes medication to control their medical problems then it is rare that they will not be able to drive.

Thanks for the review Kaleb. For all the drivers reading this review here is a little advise. Kaleb had concerns and questions about his health as it related to his CDL. After discussing it with me he found that it was no big deal and it didn’t interrupt him getting his medical card. Ninety nine percent of the health problems truck drivers have, won’t prevent them from passing a DOT physical. The job of a DOT medical examiner (myself included) is not to keep you from driving. A DOT medical examiner’s job is to make sure that your condition is adequately being treated and that condition is stable, so that you are safe to drive.
Let me repeat that…. As long as you are treating your health problems you will pass your DOT physical. There are only a hand full of medical problems that will prevent you from passing your DOT physical.

I would highly recommend Dr. Knuuttila to any company or independent driver for DOT physicals. I can complete my physical in 30 – 45 minutes. When I use to go to Concentra It would take 2 – 3 hours. I don’t know about you, but I got better things to do with my time. His office has ample parking for trucks. Concentra had no truck parking. The license bureau is right down the street from his office so you can have them scan your card. The license bureau also has parking for trucks. For speed and convenience, Dr. Tim can’t be beat !

DMV office is only 2 blocks away, so you can get your medical card scanned during the same trip (Very convenient). Just had my DOT physical done by Dr Tim and I was in and out with only a small wait. I would recommend him to anyone needing a physical especially if you are driving a large truck as I had no problem parking my truck.
Dr. K is an excellent choice to have your dot physical. The office is centrally located in St. Louis. Very friendly, and professional staff. I walked in without an appointment and did not wait long at all. Looking out for my long-term health, he also got me started on a medical weight loss programming with phoenominal results.

I have had a long history of “white coat syndrome” causing my BP to elevate in clinical settings. The annual visit to my local Concentra for the DOT was always dreaded for weeks before my cert expired. It always involved a long sit in the waiting room followed by a nurse getting a high pressure on the cuff. After “relaxing” on the table for 30 minutes, a doctor (never saw the same one twice) would recheck. It always fell into the acceptable limits but after repeating this ritual for 8 years, I decided to find a better way. I sought out a private physician who was certified to do the DOT exam. When I called Dr Knuuttila’s office, I actually spoke to Dr K himself and he instantly put me at ease. I got an appointment at my desired time and the visit was easy, quick and painless! Since it was my first visit to a chiropractor, Dr Knuuttila took a moment to answer a few questions I had regarding the benefits of Chiropractic. I found this man to be an honest, competent, caring physician and I would highly recommend him to anyone in the metro area in need of a DOT physical.
I would recommend Dr. Tim Knuuttila to any CDL holder in need of a Medical Examination Certificate. Dr. Knuuttila worked me into his busy Saturday schedule on short notice and performed the examination with a high degree of professionalism and in a short period of time. His office location is ideal; close to the intersections of I-270 and I-70 on St. Charles Rock Road. Most of us CDL holders have spent time in a doc-in-the-box waiting endlessly for attention and eventually to be examined like a piece of meat by someone of dubious credentials. My visit to Dr. Knuuttilla’s office was a pleasant return to a direct physician-patient experience; with communication and dialogue that helped us arrive at the desired outcome for me; a completed Examiner’s Certificate and out the door in less than 45 minutes.
Dr. Knuuttila will always be my first choice for my next CDL medical exam.

The reception was good incuding the work environment. The doctor makes the exam looks simple by going through it in the steps to make you feel comfortable. The nurse and the doctor were very friendly.
I have never had a dot exam from a Doctor that seems to actually care about your overall health. This is the place to go with a responsible price all in one. The staff is friendly as well. You will regret going anywhere else.
