The good news:
• You no longer have to go through the hassles of updating your medical card with your SDLA.
• You no longer have to carry your medical card with you.
Is there ‘not so good’ news?
Safeguard your CDL! How does the new DOT Medical Certificate reporting process affect your CDL?
Non-CDL Drivers
The electronic reporting requirements do not affect non-CDL drivers.
• The medical examiner must give you a physical MEC Form MCSA-5876.
• You should keep your medical certificate available at all times whilst driving a CMV.
• You will still need to provide a copy of the MEC to the companies you work for.

My wife became terminally ill 2.5 years.I was driving a commercial vehicle had been for 28years I came home to take care of her and be with her she past away last June my medical certification expired what do I have to do to get my CDL privileges reinstated?
@ Donald G
Given the circumstances, the state may only need a new medical card. Best to confirm with your local DLD for their procedures and follow them.
My class B CDL license is good every two years with a medical certificate. What if I’m a couple weeks late getting the doctors appointment after the expiration date for the two year medical. Will it be reinstated after a couple weeks late?
@ Dan c
High probability, best to confirm with your local drivers license department.
Husband is out on medical leave due to an eye injury for almost a year now. His CDL expired on 11-02-23 without us knowing. Can he get his CDL reinstated until his eye gets well enough to pass the DOT physical?
@ Jennifer H
Since his cdl is a state issued document, your best answer will come from your local drivers license department (DLD).
Explain the situation to them, they should have a policy in place for such a situation.
no he cannot.
Do I need a medical card to operate a step van under 26,000 gross weight in Nevada. I will not be traveling out of the state.
@ Michael
In most states, if you are operating ANY vehicle that is being used for commerce (making $ for someone), then a medical card is needed. Confirm this with your local DLD.
My driver only has a Class C DL when he stopped at the Nevada Scale, he asked for his Medical card. Why? if he is not a class A driver.
@ Ingrid A
Most state require a medical card for ANY vehicle that is being used for commerce (making money for someone). Confirm with your local DLD.
I have CDLs from another state and I’m transferring to Nevada, my CDLs are still valid and my H6 is clean what are the steps do I take to transfer so I can have employment?
@ Ty
You will need to contact NV. DLD for guidance on this issue.
While living in California I was required to complete and submit a health questionnaire every two years to maintain my Fire Fighter restricted license. This questionnaire was only completed by myself with no physician involvement.
My question is: Does Nevada have a self completed health questionnaire form?
@ Mike F
You will need to check with the local drivers license department for the correct answer to your question.
I have a current cdl my physical expires in 5 days I had an appointment set for this week but just tested positive for COVID.
In the week that I have to stay home the physical expires.
Is there any extension that I can get until I can take my physical.
John
@ John S
DOT/FMCSA has extended the cutoff to the end of August, so you are still good.
Do you have a 30 day window after DOT physical expiration date?
@ Mike
No, card expiration date is midnight of that date. Governments are slow though.
And how long you have to renew it before they suspend your license?
@ Mike
Each state is different, best to check with your local DLD for specifics.
I got my new medical card, the DMV is closed tomorrow (friday)and my medical card expires on Saturday, will I be okay if I submit it the following Monday knowing I already have the new medical card???
@ Russell
You’ll be fine. Just make sure you do get it done ASAP.
