Special Information Updates Pertaining To ALL STATES

MEDICAL EXAMINERS MUST CONTINUE TO ISSUE MEDICAL CERTIFICATES TO ALL DRIVERS

The FMCSA has requested that all medical examiners continue providing drivers with a paper copy of the Medical Examiner’s Certificate – Form MCSA-5876, so that Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders can provide a copy to the State licensing agency, and the non-CDL drivers can provide the documentation to their employers and Federal and State enforcement officials.

The Agency is currently completing efforts to put into place an electronic system to enable medical examiners to transmit the medical certificate information from the National Registry system to the State licensing agencies.
Until that system is completed, which compliance date according FMCSA is June 23, 2025, medical examiners must continue to issue paper copies of the medical certificates to drivers who pass the medical exam.

ALL DRIVERS MUST CONTINUE TO CARRY A PAPER COPY OF THEIR MEDICAL CERTIFICATE

Commercial Drivers – You still need to carry a paper copy of your medical card, until FMCSA announces that this is no longer necessary.

Given the circumstances, the state may only need a new medical card. Best to confirm with your local DLD for their procedures and follow them.

My class B CDL license is good every two years with a medical certificate. What if I’m a couple weeks late getting the doctors appointment after the expiration date for the two year medical. Will it be reinstated after a couple weeks late?

Husband is out on medical leave due to an eye injury for almost a year now. His CDL expired on 11-02-23 without us knowing. Can he get his CDL reinstated until his eye gets well enough to pass the DOT physical?

Since his cdl is a state issued document, your best answer will come from your local drivers license department (DLD).
Explain the situation to them, they should have a policy in place for such a situation.

In most states, if you are operating ANY vehicle that is being used for commerce (making $ for someone), then a medical card is needed. Confirm this with your local DLD.

While living in California I was required to complete and submit a health questionnaire every two years to maintain my Fire Fighter restricted license. This questionnaire was only completed by myself with no physician involvement.

My question is: Does Nevada have a self completed health questionnaire form?

DOT/FMCSA has extended the cutoff to the end of August, so you are still good.
