CDL Drivers
The good news:
• You no longer have to go through the hassles of updating your medical card with your SDLA.
• You no longer have to carry your medical card with you.
Is there ‘not so good’ news?
Safeguard your CDL! How does the new DOT Medical Certificate reporting process affect your CDL?
Non-CDL Drivers
The electronic reporting requirements do not affect non-CDL drivers.
• The medical examiner must give you a physical MEC Form MCSA-5876.
• You should keep your medical certificate available at all times whilst driving a CMV.
• You will still need to provide a copy of the MEC to the companies you work for.

If you go to take your dot physical and everything else is good but your A1C is not good and they tell you I can’t issue a card right now and didn’t complete the physical and don’t give you any paperwork saying anything.Do it get reported ?
@ Shana McG
If paperwork was not completed, then nothing was reported to the national registry.
What test do the medical examiner run? Does age make a difference in how you pass?
@ Tyler
It is a basic medical/physical examination. Age only comes into play with certain conditions.
I have my Cdl A. But, no health card. Are they no longer available as Cdl A license or what.
@ Harry G
Most states require a valid medical caed to maintain a class A cdl. Find a DOT/FMCSA medical examiner, get a new medical card and get it registered with the state, before you are automatically down graded.
I’m no longer driving CMVs at this present time because I’m drinky POV for Uber, is there a way to not be required to have a valid DOT for this? As excepted?
@ Aaron
You will need to check with your local drivers license department for their process in this matter.
How do I check to see if my CDL is valid
@ John J
Check with your local drivers license department.
I drive a school bus in Tallahatchie county and need my cdl renewed. Do I have to have a physical and medical card
@ Patricia J C-M
You fall under the states guidelines and requirements. Best to confirm with your local drivers license department. The physical examination is part of the medical card process.
Does MS give a grace period for an expired DOT physical? If so how long do I have before MS revokes my CDL?
@ Aaron
You will need to confirm this information with your local drivers license department.
I was taken out because I broke my foot. The lady at the highway patrol office had me go on the website and show my CDL as medical card exempt. I wouldn’t get caught driving a truck that requires a DOT card like that but it would hold your CDL. I don’t remember how long letting it expire would keep your CDL but it does cost about $100 to reinstate it.
In ms. No grace period . They send u letters 3 months before your dot card expires. They sent me 2 letters 3 months warning then a 30 days warning.
My CDL is a Mississippi CDL. Can I take my DOT physical in AL?
@ Joseph L
Yes, your medical is federal and can be taken anywhere with a registered medical examiner.
