Mississippi CDL Requirements
All CDL drivers in the State of Mississippi are required to have a valid DOT medical card, unless the type of commerce you drive qualifies as ‘Excepted’.
Interstate Non-Excepted

Currently Mississippi will not accept mailed in, faxed, or emailed copies of a medical card.

MEDICAL EXAMINERS MUST CONTINUE TO ISSUE MEDICAL CERTIFICATES TO ALL DRIVERS
The FMCSA has requested that all medical examiners continue providing drivers with a paper copy of the Medical Examiner’s Certificate – Form MCSA-5876, so that Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) holders can provide a copy to the State licensing agency, and the non-CDL drivers can provide the documentation to their employers and Federal and State enforcement officials.
The Agency is currently completing efforts to put into place an electronic system to enable medical examiners to transmit the medical certificate information from the National Registry system to the State licensing agencies.
Until that system is completed, which compliance date according FMCSA is June 23, 2025, medical examiners must continue to issue paper copies of the medical certificates to drivers who pass the medical exam.
ALL DRIVERS MUST CONTINUE TO CARRY A PAPER COPY OF THEIR MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
Commercial Drivers – You still need to carry a paper copy of your medical card, until FMCSA announces that this is no longer necessary.

How long after obtaining an updated dot medical card do I have to present it to the dmv?

I’m a school bus driver in Mississippi. I was told by my transportation director that school bus driver’s are not required to have a DOT physical in the state of Mississippi?

I would confirm those facts with your local drivers license department first. Your transportation director may be correct, but it is a state related question not Federal DOT/FMCSA.

If you are using a cpap machine, then the FMCSA guidelines request a recent, within the past thirty days, readout from your unit.
What is a driver is blind in one eye and has 20/20 in the other? Can they get the vision exemption since in other states they have approved others that are blind in one eye, some since birth

It is possible to get the visual exemption from the DOT. Check first with your state drivers license department and then with federal DOT for the most up-to-date information.

Your diagnosis and symptomatic picture will be taken into consideration and will require medical documentation and a medical release from your doctors.
I have a cdl and don’t drive at all here but will whe we move back to Arizona or Utah how can I make it where I don’t need to do a medical exam every year

We know that Utah requires a valid medical certification to maintain a valid cdl, not sure about AZ. Check with the local DLD to get a confirmed answer.

Check with your local DLD for the answer. Most states require a valid medical certificate to hold a valid cdl.
Right now I’m not driving a CDL truck and not planning to in the future unless I have too. My medical card is about to laps over because I had a health issue which is getting under control. How much is the fine for an expired dot medical card when I have to renew it.

There is no fine for an out-dated medical card.
I once allowed my cdl medical card to expire , there was No fine but my cdl was dropped to an operator’s license and I had to pay to reinstate my cdl

My husbands emploer said he didn’t have to register his medical card with the dmv inowbthat the rules had changed. Is that correct

Most states are requiring that a valid medical crd be on file to maintain a valid CDL. Especially for class A drivers. Lesser class license may not be required with your state. Check with your local DMV to confirm.

In Mississippi if you drive for a city municipality you don’t need a med card. But if you still work and drive a contractor that works for a city is a med card still needed? Driving within the city and the trucks are non dot listed and have gov tags
Yes, driving for a contractor is driving for commercial purposes and you need a medical card.

My dot physical went out on 4/22 of this year so last year I went ahead and renewed it in Ark (where I work) on 5.13 and I took it to the dmv maybe 3 days after getting a new one and I applied for a new job and I’m told I no longer have a CDL because my medical card was out of date can someone help pls
