Missouri CDL Requirements
All Missouri CDL holders are required to certify the type of commercial operation they’re engaged in.
Interstate Non-Excepted
You must meet the Federal DOT medical certificate requirements.
Intrastate Non-Excepted
You must meet the Federal DOT medical certificate requirements.
Under the federal regulations, all CDL holders are required to self certify to a single type of commercial operation. Based on that self-certification, you may need to provide a current medical examiner’s certificate and show any variance (FMCSA waiver) you may have in order to obtain or keep your CDL.
CDL holders required to have a “certified” medical status who fail to produce and keep up-to-date their medical examiner’s certificate with the Department will become “not-certified” and they may lose their CDL.
CDL retesting may not be required unless you voluntarily downgrade your license or let your CDL license remain expired for more than six months.
Submitting your Medical Certificate to Missouri License Office
When requested, submit a copy of your valid DOT medical certificate.

CDL Drivers
The good news:
• You no longer have to go through the hassles of updating your medical card with your SDLA.
• You no longer have to carry your medical card with you.
Is there ‘not so good’ news?
Safeguard your CDL! How does the new DOT Medical Certificate reporting process affect your CDL?
Non-CDL Drivers
The electronic reporting requirements do not affect non-CDL drivers.
• The medical examiner must give you a physical MEC Form MCSA-5876.
• You should keep your medical certificate available at all times whilst driving a CMV.
• You will still need to provide a copy of the MEC to the companies you work for.

My current med card expires January 31, 2019. I am getting a passing DOT physical today, January 9, 2019. How long do I have to get back to Missouri to have the license office scan my new med card?
@ Ron H
Check online for your states DLD, they may have a way to get it registered without returning to the state. Check with your local DLD for the best answer.
I think it’s 60 days. In the past I have received a letter about my medical card. When I let it lapse (not by choice) I had 60 days to recertify or drop my license to an intrastate (Missouri only) CDL.. I think its called a “K” endorsement. Otherwise the license is dropped down automatically.
I have an FAA class 3 medical to fly airplanes which is difficult to obtain and much more stringent than the DOT medical. Why will that not serve as medical certification for my CDL? This is frustrating that these two massive governmental agencies can’t work together to save taxpayers like me time and money.

Welcome to the federal governments system.
In order to submit your Medical Certification WITHOUT going to their office, you must submit a Form 5463 and your medical certification. You can fax it to 573-526-7365 or email it to dlbmail@dor.mo.gov

@ Heather N

I forgot to renew my medicalcard. Is there a grace period if your medical card expires to renew?.
@Kj
All medical cards expire at midnight of the expiration date, no grace periods.
That’s incorrect.

You might want to check with your state in the state of Missouri your license will be downgraded to a regular operator license if your medical card expires you have 6 months to submit a new medical card before your CDL expires. I’m sure Missouri is not the only state that does this
Do you all know how to get a copy of a lost medical card?
I do not have enough money to cover the cost and it’s the last step in the process. Is there any kind of grant or tax right off that can help with funding?
I’m having trouble finding the website or email address I can send a medical certification. I work for a trucking company and I have a driver who just renewed his Missouri physical and I’m not sure how to send it to the state.
Take it to the dmv and they scan it in and it cost $2
I’m on insulin and have not had any problems in over 10 years. What do I need to do to get a medical card?
@Carl
Lots will depend on what class license and what type of driving you want to do.
Class A Interstate is going to be the most difficult, intra-state only will put you into your states variances and not FMCSA interstate rules and regs.
Hi does anyone know if in the sate of Missouri do you have to take a dot physical in order to get a class B with air breaks?? And also has anyone ever heard of going to a truck stop and getting a dot fourm and the blank card and then taking it you your doctor that does dot physical and having it filled out?
@Dan
Anyone who drives for commercial purposes must have a medical card.
You must go to a certified medical examiner to have your medical certification done. All CMEs have the correct forms and take care of the process.
